Arkion 2025 plans and 2024 review

2024 was a milestone year for Arkion! We rebranded and launched groundbreaking features to enhance grid management. With an exciting roadmap ahead, let’s recap some highlights from this transformative year.

Commercial Developments
We’re proud to have been chosen by two of the largest power grid operators in their respective markets to help them with asset analytics.

  • Elvia in Norway: We’ll support Elvia, the largest distribution grid in the country. Christine Hegerstrøm, Maintenance Engineer at Elvia, comments:
"The solutions provided by Arkion will contribute positively to the modernization of maintenance and lay a solid foundation for Elvia's maintenance assessments, ensuring that the right measures are implemented at the right time. Elvia looks forward to a successful collaboration with Arkion."
  • Energisa in Brazil: We’ve started working with Energisa to assist them with asset analytics and AI development. Energisa, one of Brazil’s largest distribution grid operators, serves over 20 million customers. Over a three-year period, Arkion will provide condition assessments for 2.5 million transmission and distribution structures. By leveraging Arkion’s advanced analytics, Energisa aims to detect defects earlier, mitigate risks, and optimize long-term investment strategies.

A Record-Breaking Year

As of 2024, Arkion has analyzed over 50,000 km of powerlines—a record-breaking achievement! This milestone has refined our models’ accuracy and speed, laying a solid foundation for an even bigger 2025.

Product Updates

Advancing AI and Asset Management
2024 saw significant strides in the development and reliability of our AI models. Looking ahead, we aim to expand our capabilities within the Asset Management space and grid optimization. Our goal remains to offer a comprehensive solution for the entire transmission and distribution grid—supporting preventative maintenance today and predictive optimization in the future.

Substations Pilot Launched
Arkion’s analytics are now expanding to substations, integrating 2D, 3D, and thermal data for condition monitoring, sensor readings, and perimeter security. By reducing costs and improving quality, this marks a pivotal step in bridging transmission and distribution.

UI Enhancements
We’re constantly improving Arkion’s user interface to make it faster and more intuitive. The goal? Empower power users while ensuring seamless ad-hoc functionality for everyone. Below is a sneak peek of some of the exciting features we’re working on:

Looking Ahead

New Vegetation Feature: Combine 3D and 2D Data
One of Arkion’s key strengths is the integration of 2D, 3D, and thermal data into a unified platform. We’re taking this further by automatically integrating 3D data into your map overview. This means your reports can now include data from 3D sources alongside 2D images, offering unparalleled insights.

E-world 2025
Meet us at E-world, one of Europe’s largest conferences for utilities! We’ll be part of the Energy Pavilion, on the invitation of the Swedish Chamber of Commerce and the Swedish Energy Agency.

Upcoming Event
Stay tuned for more details about an exciting event we’re hosting later this year. Keep your eyes peeled!

Two frameworks for understanding the risks and opportunities of AI-driven power line inspections
The power grid is critical infrastructure, yet asset failures cost $150 billion annually due to outdated inspection methods like manual checks and helicopters, which fail to detect up to 90% of defects. AI-driven drone inspections offer a faster, more cost-effective, and precise alternative, but adoption remains slow due to concerns about scalability and integration. The OPEN (Outline, Partner, Experiment, Navigate) and CARE (Catastrophize, Assess, Regulate, Exit) frameworks help grid operators implement AI effectively by aligning technology with business needs, fostering collaboration, testing high-impact use cases, and creating structured roadmaps for scaling.
VB Elnät – From Pilot to Full Rollout in 6 Months
Västerbergslagens Elnät, part of Vattenfall Group, Ludvika and Fagersta municipality, rapidly scaled their use of AI-powered inspections. After a focused proof of concept, they moved to a full rollout of their distribution grid in just six months—demonstrating what’s possible with committed leadership and the right tools.
